Who We Are

Gateway Community Charters (GCC) is a nonprofit public education organization that operates a family of nine charter schools in the greater Sacramento region, serving more than 6,000 TK–12 students across 18 campuses. Founded in 2003, GCC is committed to providing innovative, high-quality, and community-responsive educational opportunities to students who have traditionally been underserved.

GCC’s Strategic Plan is anchored in a bold vision: to transform lives and communities through education. This vision is brought to life through our Portrait of a Graduate —a framework that defines the skills, mindsets, and habits of success every student should develop. These include being academically ready, career and workforce ready, life ready, responsible citizens, reflective citizens, and global citizens. Our strategic priorities ensure that each school, program, and initiative supports students in reaching their fullest potential in both academic and real-world settings.

The GCC Foundation is the fundraising and development arm of Gateway Community Charters. A 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the Foundation mobilizes community and philanthropic support to close the funding gap between what public education provides and what our students truly need to thrive. All sponsorships and donations are tax-deductible and directly benefit student programs.

SAVA is a cornerstone of the GCC network, offering a flex-based study model for grades 6–12. With campuses throughout Sacramento County, SAVA blends academic instruction with Career Technical Education (CTE), dual enrollment, mentorships, and project-based learning. Our mission is to provide students with personalized learning pathways that prepare them for college, career, and civic life.

SAVA’s programs are designed to support a diverse range of students, including those who thrive in nontraditional settings, learn at different paces, or seek a more personalized approach to education. Many of our students come to SAVA after experiencing challenges in traditional school environments, whether academic, social, or personal. Our strength lies in meeting students where they are and guiding them forward with compassion, structure, and meaningful opportunity.
